Here is an installation shot of my artwork Requiem at Bundoora Homestead Arts Centre in 2017, as part of their exhibition Coming Home, about the history of the site as a convalescent farm for returned soldiers suffering from shell shock.
The art installation recalls an historic photograph of a hospital bed covered in flowers, but my version has floral tributes drawn on the bedding with charcoal, suggesting remnant traces of ephemeral flowers. The floral imagery also relates to Bundoora Homestead’s history as a rural Convalescent Home in the 1920s, and the healing labour that the ‘war derelicts’ undertook in the grounds of the homestead, included working in the flower beds.
